Re-Frame Yourself

Re-Frame Yourself

For the past 8 years, I've been running Airwaves Music DJs and have overall had a pretty awesome time doing it. I've learned a lot. But about two years ago, I read an excerpt from Elon Musk, quoting his favourite book, 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and it really got me thinking. I forget the exact quote but he said something like, in the future, there will be no more manager types. There will be people that can build things and people that cannot. For some reason that hit me hard and I decided it was time to change the way I thought about myself.

I didn't want to be one of the managers of the past. I wanted to be a builder. I wanted to make things people actually used and I decided it was really important to me to be able to re-invent myself as life went on. I don't ever want to think "this is who I am" and "this is my skill-set".

I can tell you for sure that coding will never get street cred as a badass and it won't help you pick up chicks. Probably nobody in the normal world will care much that you can do it. But holy shit am I proud of the fact that I have stuck with it.

I've come far enough to see myself a bit differently. I encourage you to think about how you can completely change yourself too. It's been frustrating as hell, but liberating all at once. Its' been empowering to step out of the limitations I set on my own view of myself.
